Temporary parking and access changes begin September 14 at UHNBC

Exciting progress is underway for the University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC) Acute Care Tower Project.

Beginning Monday, September 14, site preparation activities will start on the UHNBC campus, marking an important step toward construction of the future acute care tower. As work gets underway, visitors, patients, staff, and community members may notice some temporary changes to parking and access routes around the hospital.

Over the coming weeks, crews will complete a variety of site preparation activities, including the deconstruction of the former Northern Interior Health Unit building. These early works are required to prepare the site for future construction. Work areas will be clearly marked and secured with fencing.

First signs of activity on site

The arrival of the first site trailer is one of the project's first visible milestones and signals the beginning of on-site activity. While much of the work happening over the next several weeks will focus on preparing the site, each step brings the project closer to delivering expanded acute care services for Northern BC.

Parking and access information

The UHNBC parkade remains available and is a good parking option. Whenever possible, visitors are encouraged to use the parkade to help keep parking spaces closest to the hospital entrance available for patients and those with accessibility needs.

Visitors, patients, and staff are asked to follow all posted signage and allow extra travel time when coming to the hospital campus.

Hospital services continue as normal

Patient care and hospital services will continue as usual throughout the work. We will continue to provide updates as construction activities progress and additional milestones are reached.
